BSDetective ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. What We Collect

When you use the BSDetective Chrome extension, we collect:

• Page text for analysis: When you click "Analyze This Page," the visible text content of the active tab is sent to our analysis API. This text is used solely to generate your persuasion analysis and is not stored after the response is returned.
• Scan metadata: We log anonymised scan metadata including the content domain, tactic types detected, SPI score, and timestamp. This contains no personally identifiable information and is used to improve detection accuracy and generate aggregate manipulation trend data.
• Usage counters: Your scan count and weekly reset timestamp are stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API.
• Email address: Only if you voluntarily subscribe to The Manipulation Report newsletter or create a paid account.
• Payment information: Processed securely by Lemon Squeezy. We never see or store your card details.

2. What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your browsing history.
• We do not track which websites you visit.
• We do not run in the background or monitor tabs you haven't explicitly chosen to analyse.
• We do not sell, share, or transfer personal data to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
• We do not collect data from any tab unless you click "Analyze This Page."

3. How Analysis Works

BSDetective is user-invoked only. No data leaves your browser until you click "Analyze This Page." The extracted page text is sent via encrypted HTTPS to our backend API (hosted on Supabase), processed by an AI model, and the structured analysis result is returned to the extension. The raw page text is not retained after analysis is complete.

4. Anonymised Data Processing

We process anonymised scan metadata — such as tactic types, content categories, SPI scores, and source domains — to build aggregate insights into manipulation trends across the internet. This data is fully anonymised and cannot be linked to individual users.

By using BSDetective, you consent to this anonymised data processing. We may use this aggregate data to produce public reports, research, or data products in the future.

5. Local Storage

The extension uses Chrome's local storage API to maintain your scan count, weekly reset date, onboarding preferences, and tier information. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Supabase: Backend hosting and Edge Functions for analysis processing.
• Anthropic (Claude): AI model used for persuasion pattern analysis.
• Lemon Squeezy: Payment processing for paid subscriptions.
• Google Analytics: Anonymous usage analytics to improve the product.

Each service operates under its own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data required for each service to function.

7. Data Retention

• Page text: Not retained. Discarded immediately after analysis.
• Scan metadata: Retained indefinitely in anonymised form.
• Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
• Local storage: Cleared when you uninstall the extension.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
• Request deletion of your account and associated data.
• Uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all local data.
• Opt out of the newsletter at any time via the unsubscribe link.

9. Children's Privacy

BSDetective is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of BSDetective after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
